In and out the dusty bluebells

If that headline rings a faint bell in your mind, then like me, you probably played this circle game as a child. 'In and out the dusty...

A death, and new life: April 2023

It probably sounds weird, but I have never been one of those people who swoons over spring. I love summer - warm nights and wine in the...

The fairweather gardener is back: 3rd June 2022

It turns out, then, that gardening is quite a commitment. If you neglect the patch for most of the autumn and the entire winter, and then...

I noted that the last time I did a blog post was Christmas Eve and today happens to be Easter Sunday. So my promise to blog 'religiously'...

The garden in winter

It's the bleak midwinter here in Berwick. We've got none of the nice festive bits like snow or frost and all of the horrible bits, like...

Autumn harvest: 27th Sept 2020

Another short post. I've become very time poor again, and getting out into the garden is hard. I'm also thinking that this is a time to...

The radish of happiness: 22nd May 2020

Some horticultural swings and roundabouts this week. There was quite a breeze last night and my carefully-planted borage seeds in their...

Radical roots

One of the reasons I resisted gardening for so long was that I thought it was a terribly bourgeois thing to do. It belonged to the middle...

In a week that seems to have been nothing but online meetings on Teams or Zoom, the moments grabbed in the garden have been extremely...

I've had a couple of grim weeks where the social media gardeners I'm following all have their flowers and veg bursting into life whereas...

The fun stuff: April 14th 2020

Ahahaha. At last. I get to plant something fun. The soil is turned and weeded and ready. And I hope, willing. I decided that I would...
