Catching the tumbleweed

Hello, my poor, dust-covered, neglected blog. What can I say? Work's been a nightmare. My energy levels are low. It's a good job you don't have to spend much time outdoors to reap the benefits, because I can't say I've been very active.

And this being Berwick, the weather's been - shall we say - unpredictable. The sunnier days have been weekdays when I have been imprisoned in the world of Zoom and Teams. Of course. The rain confined itself to evenings and weekends. Mais oui.

What would Mrs Jackson have done? Hired a 'little man' to sort things out and given him firm directions, so not a blade of grass was out of place. That's not possible for me. So what's going on in my garden?

Most of the stuff there was to harvest has been collected and eaten. So the peas, salad stuff and potatoes are gone and what I need to do is get into a cycle of 'rinse and repeat'.

A very long awaited lily flower unfurled itself on the pond. It feels churlish to complain that I ordered a white one.

The wildflower seeds I planted back in April are blooming beautifully.

And the beans we planted in June are climbing nicely up their home-made frames and beginning to flower.

And I am drying some of the herbs (here, rosemary, chamomile, lavender).

All good.

But what I am not showing you are the pockets of weeds and crap that have sprung up around the garden. Everything needs a good going over.

This week: for certain. I promise.
